‘Sach Ka Saamna’ ahead of ‘Iss Jungle Se…’ in ratings
|
Saturday, July 25, 2009 |
Truth always prevails. And it certainly does on Indian television, as the ratings of two newly launched reality shows indicate. "Sach Ka Saamna", which tests a person's honesty, has surpassed the popularity of jungle-based adventure reality show "Iss Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao".
The premiere episode of STAR Plus' "Sach Ka Saama", aired on July 15, recorded a television rating point (TRP) of 3.4 percent as against 1.6 percent registered by the first episode of "Iss Jungle Se..." on Sony TV, according to data provided by television viewership tracker Audience Measurement and Analytics (aMap).
Both these shows have generated a mixed response from the audience.
If a section of viewers is to be believed, "Iss Jungle Se...", which first aired on July 13, is lagging behind "Sach Ka Saamna" because its tasks involve a lot of creepy, slimy and dangerous creatures that leave them feeling horrified.
Twenty-year-old Leena Hiranandani says she can't stand the sight of celebrities getting so close to snakes, flies, frogs and other creepy-crawlies on the show and instead enjoys watching how people face questions on their personal and professional decisions on "Sach Ka Saamna".
"Once I was eating while watching the show ('Iss Jungle Se...') and Aman Verma was asked to perform a task where he had to break a few watermelons that had vague things and animals inside them like lizards, fish intestines and even monkey shit. It was the ugliest and scariest of things I've ever seen and I didn't even feel like eating my food after that," Leena told IANS.
"I'd rather watch a show like 'Sach Ka Saamna'. It has suspense and doesn't generate a disgusting feeling. Besides, it is being hosted by Rajeev (Khandelwal)... he is a sweetheart," she added.
"Sach Ka Saamna" puts contestants through 21 controversial and uncomfortable questions about their lives to win a Rs.10 million prize money if they answer them honestly. And "Iss Jungle Se..." has TV actors like Aakashdeep Saigal and singer Anaida swapping a life of luxury in Malaysia's' Taman Negara tropical rain forest to walk away with an equal amount.
Nandita Singh, a Delhi University student, too finds the tasks in "Iss Jungle Se..." distasteful.
"The entire show looks like a set-up. It doesn't look very real. Even the celebrities who have been roped in are not very known; so it makes it all the more boring. And the tasks are not pleasing at all," said Nandita.
There are many who feel the show is repulsive, but there are some viewers like Neha Sharma, 18, and Ashish Mohan, 25, who prefer "Iss Jungle Se..." over "Sach Ka Saamna".
While Neha says she doesn't like "Sach Ka Saamna" because the truth about a person's personal life can break his or her family, Mohan feels there is no adventure in telling the truth about your life on national television.
"You can tell the truth to anybody any time. But the tasks these celebrities are made to do on 'Iss Jungle Se..." are not everyone's cup of tea. I wouldn't imagine doing such things myself and watching celebrities do it with so much willingness is what thrills me about this show," said Mohan.
Both the shows are adaptations of popular international reality shows "Moment of Truth" and "I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here" respectively.
The TRPs of both the shows dipped post their launch, but "Iss Jungle Se..." still remains far behind "Sach Ka Saamna" in the viewership race.

Thom Yorke and Kings of Leon Considered for New Moon Soundtrack
|
Friday, July 17, 2009 |
As production on New Moon wraps up - and every female under the age of 23 counts down until the movie's release date on November 20 - attention is turning to the film's soundtrack.
While fans are buzzing over the possibility that Adam Lambert wants to record a song for it, director Chris Weitz didn't mention the American Idol's name in a recent interview.
Instead, he pointed to a pair of other artists as leading contenders to be featured on the album.
"We are just starting to put together what bands are on the soundtrack, so it's kind of like keeping ten plates spinning at once," Weitz said. "Everything is still kind of up in the air, but I am surprised at some of the bands that have said they're interested... The criterion will still always be what's right for the movie at that given moment, but Thom Yorke is interested; we might, if we're very lucky, get Kings of Leon to do something."
Yorke's band, Radiohead, closed out Twilight with its song "15 Step." Think he'd be a good choice for New Moon? As you ponder that possibility, browse through an assortment of New Moon movie stills. Enjoy! |

Omer Bhatti: Secret Son of Michael Jackson?
|
|
While this rumor is supposedly not entirely new, and we do not really believe it, we're The Hollywood Gossip, so if we don't tell you when we hear about Michael Jackson supposedly having a secret son, then we're just slacking off.
Omer Bhatti is this person's name. This is a picture of him: Omer Bhatti in his early 20s and hails from Norway.
He has "been close" (according to some soures) with the pop star since the mid-90s, when he began touring with him and living on and off at Neverland Ranch.
While Michael Jackson supposedly told people that Omer Bhatti is his son (the result of a one-night-stand with a Norwegian fan), others claim he just calls him that, and they met only after he wowed M.J. with an impression of the singer.
That would certainly be ironic, since some reports have suggested that Arnold Klein, not Jackson, is the biological father of two of the late pop star's children.
“I’m not surprised Michael says he’s the father,” a source told Fox News in 2004. “It’s a fantasy. But these people did not exist in Michael’s life before 1996.”
Omer Bhatti is allegedly convinced that he is Jackson’s son and is "desperate" for a DNA test to prove it. Sounds far fetched to say the least, but they were definitely acquainted. Interestingly, he was spotted yesterday at the Jackson home.
Going to visit Paris and Prince Michael, maybe?

But Imran Khan not keen to work with Aishwarya
|
|
He is the latest heartthrob in tinsel town and there are many actresses who would love to be paired opposite him. But the two-film-old Imran Khan would rather share screen space with Kareena Kapoor than Aishwarya Rai. "No," said Imran when asked whether he is keen to work with former beauty queen-turned-actress Aishwarya. "I'm most keen to work with Kareena. Both of us shot for a chat show last week and I had great fun," Imran told reporters in New Delhi on Thursday (July 16). Dressed in a casual blue T-shirt and a tattered and torn pair of blue jeans, Imran was at his wittiest and generous best at an event to celebrate the success of FM Radio Mirchi's show "18 Hamesha" along with RJ Stutee. Imran, who also came here to promote his upcoming film "Luck", not only hugged young girls but also 50 plus women when they screamed out his name in excitement and cheered every time he flashed a smile for the shutterbugs. He even sang few lines of the hit song "Kabhi kabhi Aditi..." from his debut film "Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na" and did a jig on the song "Pappu can't dance..." from the same movie on a special request by his young female fans. He also sang the original song "Jaane tu ya jaane na". Though Imran looked little embarrassed due to all the attention he was getting, he loved every bit of his interaction with the fans. "I always love meeting my audiences and fans face-to-face and I love interacting with them at live events such as these. I feel I make fans for life," Imran told IANS. "Luck", which releases July 24, also stars Imran's childhood friend Shruthi Haasan who is debuting with the film. Apart from them, the action thriller, directed by Soham Shah of "Kaal" fame, has Sanjay Dutt, Mithun Chakraborty and Ravi Kissen. Indo-Asian News Service |

Deepika regrets going public about her relationship with Ranbir
|
Wednesday, July 15, 2009 |
I want to wear good clothes and sing good songs. But I'd be uncomfortable doing just songs and dances, says Deepika
Deepika Padukone has everything going for her in Bollywood. She has worked with top stars and big banners. But she does have one regret - making her relationship with Ranbir Kapoor public.
"When we got into a relationship, we decided to be open about it. Otherwise there would be reports about us being spotted holding hands, kissing, hugging, etc. Since we were so clear about our relationship, we had nothing to hide. I thought people would respect that. But it didn't work out that way," Deepika told IANS.
Deepika was especially upset about the paparazzi pictures of her and Ranbir.
"We both have families and very respectable families. People who take pictures of us secretly must have families and boyfriends and girlfriends. We've now decided not to talk about our friendship. At the end of the day no one is going to see our films because we're a couple," said the actress who teamed up with Ranbir in "Bachna Ae Haseeno".
Any other film with Ranbir after "Bachna Ae Haseeno"?
"We get offers every day to act together, but we're waiting for the right opportunity. The script has to be special. But we're very clear about not mixing business with our relationship," she said.
Tell her there was no upward movement in Ranbir's graph as an actor from "Saawariya" to "Bachna…" and she protests: "His graph was already so high in 'Saawariya', where could he go? 'Bachna Ae Haseeno' gave him a chance to do something totally different. I too want to get away from the glam sham.
"Of course, I want to wear good clothes and sing good songs. But I'd be uncomfortable doing just songs and dances. Beyond Sajid Khan's film I haven't signed any movie. Imtiaz Ali's films are very real relevant to today," she said.
Deepika has mainly worked with older actors - Shah Rukh, Akshay Kumar. In her next, "Love Aaj Kal", she teams up with another senior actor Saif Ali Khan. But she is not complaining.
"Ranbir and I work like pals. But I wouldn't say I had more fun working with him. You are not on the sets to have fun. But yes, definitely the comfort level with him was much higher even when we weren't seeing each other. My other co-stars were a lot more mature and I was a lot more reserved with them. But I've to tell you, Shah Rukh completely pampered me," she said.
Talking about her "Love Aaj Kal" co-star Saif, she said: "Saif is reserved. I've heard he wasn't like this earlier. I believe he has calmed down a lot because of Kareena or whatever. Saif and I just did our work on Imtiaz Ali's sets and went our separate ways. That's the way I like it. I'm a very reserved person. I'm not here to make friends. But yes, Bipasha Basu and Minissha Lamba are now friends."
Deepika has signed Sajid Khan's full-fledged comedy "Houseful".
"It's not just a few comic scenes here and there. It's a hardcore comic role. And I wonder how I'll manage it. I'll try. Sajid has a great sense of humour and I'd go by his vision. Sajid just told me to follow him. If my director has so much confidence in me, I can't let him down," said the actress, who has a very sober image.
"But that doesn't mean I don't have a sense of fun. I plan to have a ball doing 'Houseful'. I'm a reserved person in real life, but that doesn't mean I can't be funny for the camera," she added.
So after working with sister Farah it's brother Sajid.
"I'm very fond of both of them. At a time when the entertainment industry wasn't too confident about me, Farah trusted me completely. She didn't even audition me. Farah was the one who spotted talent in me and cast me opposite Shah Rukh," she said.
